architect: reenie (karin) elliott
building type+location: sustainable community housing, school, crèche, ice skating rink, supermarket, conference centre, bridge, offices
invisible elements:
1 - this project opposed the ritual demolition of hauntingly beautiful industrial structures from the thatcher era. It was titled ‘work the black seam’ and proposed these structures would be reinhabited by new uses which would evoke an admiration for their industrial history. sadly, they were demolished and replaced by yet another monotonous suburban development.
2 - the hopi indians in the new mexico desert construct a funeral pyre for a broken down old chevrolet, lamenting its passing as though it were member of the family. (the secret life of objects)
